I’m an overthinker. As soon as that self-tape request hits my inbox my mind starts moving at 100 miles per hour. ‘This could change your life’, ‘Don’t F this up’, ‘I can’t do this’, ‘I can do this’, ‘No wait I really can’t’ ‘ How will I cry on cue?’…
What Loren and Intentional Acting gave me is a fool proof checklist, a structure, a method that allows me to just focus on what’s in front of me and shut out all of those distracting and unhelpful thoughts. Before working with Loren I would spend little to no time actually doing ‘the work’ on the script, I was cocky, I’d been to drama school and I believed my instincts were enough, I just needed to memorize the script as soon as possible and that’s the job done (somewhere across the Atlantic Loren is screaming INTERNALIZE!!).
I know that when I apply the 8 Keys and 9 Questions my work is stronger, more nuanced and built from facts drawn out by my script analysis. My agent even commented after a few months of class how he thought my tapes are improving. I’ve gotten re-calls and booked jobs from my tapes since applying the methods of Intentional Acting which before working with Loren felt impossible.
I now find myself excited for a self-tape, I’m ready to play and I know exactly what to do. There’s still work to do but I no longer focus on the results.
